The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse is such a cute book and I highly recommend getting a board book copy for a child as soon as they are born. It is such a short, simple, colorful, and imaginative read. Perfect for younger readers.

I have read several reviews where people complain that this isn’t much of a story or there isn’t one. However, this book is about a boy who is an “artist” and paints pictures of different animals, one on each page. I love the imagination of the boy because he paints the animals in different colors such as a red crocodile or a purple fox. He really is a great little painter! 🙂 That is the story and even though it is simple it is still cute and any child would love to look at this book. My son flips through this book by himself a couple times a day. Just loves it. Simple is better for children under a year! Once they are older they will love learning the names of the animals, and you can even teach them that you don’t have to draw/paint things the way they are. You can create your own masterpiece just the way you want it.wpid-new-doc-16_1.jpg.jpeg

Apparently there is some author’s note or something in the hardcover version and many people have complained about it. If it bothers you so much then by the board book version and get over it. Others have found it to be very interesting and informative. Personally, I have not read it because I own a different version.

As always Eric Carle impresses us with his beautiful tissue paper and watercolor illustrations.  Each picture is brightly colored, simple, and there is only one animal on each page, which is absolutely perfect for very young children. I love how much work he puts into his stories!

Even though it is such a simple book children will love it for many years. It is one of those books that they will quickly learn to read themselves.
