I happened to come across No Sleep for the Sheep! at our local library and upon first inspection it looked pretty cute. It wasn’t until we got home and really read it that my son and I fell in love with it!
The story is about a sheep who wants to get some sleep, but is constantly interrupted by the noises of other animals including a duck, goat, pig, horse, cow, and even the morning call of a rooster. Will the sheep ever get any sleep?!
The story is very cute and extremely fun to read with the catchy, rhyming, repetitive text and children will love the sounds of the animals.
Then there came a loud Neighhhh at the door, at the door, and the sheep couldn’t sleep any more./”Got to sleep!” said the sheep/ to the horse at the door./”And please don’t Neigh any more!”
“Neigh!” said the horse in the barn./ “Shhh! Not a peep! Go to sleep!” said the sheep/in the big red barn on the farm.
The illustrations are also very well done, rendered in watercolors with brown pencil outline, and complement the story perfectly. I love the expressions of the sheep and how they portray how frustrated and tired the sheep is.
This is a great bedtime story for children who adore farm animals and parents who want something fun to read to their children. Highly recommend for children 2 and older. I only wish this was available in board book format.
